Background of the Study
Mobile health (mHealth) applications have revolutionized healthcare delivery by offering innovative solutions to enhance accessibility and patient engagement. In Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, these digital tools are increasingly used to overcome traditional barriers such as long waiting times, limited infrastructure, and geographic constraints (Olu, 2023). mHealth platforms facilitate remote consultations, appointment scheduling, and the dissemination of health information, thereby improving service efficiency and patient outcomes. Despite these advances, challenges related to user acceptance, digital literacy, and technology reliability persist, affecting the overall effectiveness of mHealth interventions (Adebayo, 2024). This study critically evaluates the impact of mobile health applications on healthcare access in Lagos Mainland by examining usability, accessibility, and the integration of digital platforms with existing healthcare systems (Johnson, 2025). The research also explores patient empowerment and the bridging of communication gaps between healthcare providers and the community.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing adoption of mHealth applications in Lagos Mainland, their effectiveness in promoting equitable healthcare access remains uncertain (Ifeanyi, 2023). Issues such as limited digital literacy, network reliability problems, and user mistrust hinder the optimal utilization of these platforms. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of mobile health applications on healthcare delivery and identify barriers to effective use, thereby informing strategies to enhance their integration into the existing healthcare system (Okoro, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

To assess the effectiveness of mHealth applications in improving healthcare access.

To identify barriers affecting the use of mobile health platforms.

To propose recommendations for optimizing mHealth integration into healthcare services.

Research Questions:

How effective are mobile health applications in promoting healthcare access?

What challenges do users face when utilizing mHealth platforms?

How can mHealth applications be improved to better serve healthcare needs?

Research Hypotheses:

mHealth applications significantly improve healthcare accessibility.

Digital literacy challenges negatively impact the utilization of mHealth.

Enhancements in mHealth functionality will lead to higher user satisfaction and improved health outcomes.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides insights into the role of mobile health applications in bridging healthcare access gaps. The findings will guide policymakers and healthcare providers in optimizing digital health strategies, ultimately enhancing service delivery and patient outcomes in Lagos Mainland (Eze, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
Limited to the topic only.

Definitions of Terms:

Mobile health (mHealth): The use of mobile devices and applications to deliver healthcare services.

Healthcare access: The ability of individuals to obtain necessary medical services.

Digital literacy: The ability to effectively use digital technologies and platforms.
